先端芸術表現Inter-Media Art

　卒業、修了は、終わりではなく、始まりでです。社会とのつながりを重く見る先端芸術表現科、先端芸術表現専攻から旅立った人々の仲間に、みなさんは加わって、自分自身の船を漕ぎ出す。そんな胸躍る機会がようやくやってきたことを、共に喜びたいと思います。
　ですが、新しい世紀に育ったみなさんにとって、現実は、決してたやすいものではありませんでした。戦争やテロの火種は、世界から消えませんでした。また、コロナウィルスの脅威に怯える生活を、世界の人々は送ってきました。
　かりに絶望が迫ってきても、かすかな希望を見いだす力が、人類にはそなわっています。けっして、あきらめず、なげださず、慎重に、そして大胆に。ともに、未来への地図を描いていきたいと思います。
　今、黒澤明監督の比喩を逆にして、皆さんに贈ります。
　悪魔のように大胆に、天使のように細心に。

Graduating from our undergraduate program and finishing master’s degrees are milestones that mark new beginnings. As they emerge from their department—which keenly stresses the importance of links with the world around us—join with alumni, each launches their vessel onto the waters. I rejoice with students at the arrival of exhilarating opportunities.
Then again, for those of you raised in the current century, today’s realities cannot be described as easy. We have clearly failed to extinguish war and terrorism, and a pandemic has oppressed our lives. But the human race is endowed with the capacity to seek out hope, even when confronted with oppressive despair. We must always move forward with care and courage in that quest. Pooling our shared wisdom, I look forward to collective efforts that plot the course to the future.
In closing, I wish to respectfully reverse Japanese movie director Akira Kurosawa’s thought, “Be prudent like a demon, bold like an angel,” to “Be bold like a demon, prudent like an angel.”
