工芸Crafts

　東京藝術大学に工芸科が置かれたのは古く、まさに日本の近代化と共に歩んできたと言えます。彫金、鍛金、鋳金、漆芸（漆工・木工）陶芸（陶・磁・ガラス造形）という専門分野からなる工芸科の卒業生・修了生は、制作を通して分野の専門性を身につけることはもとより、さらにその枠を超えるべく多様な価値観を積極的に受け入れ体験してきた世代です。
コロナパンデミックを経て激変する環境や社会状況のなか、自身の身体を使い懸命に作品を生み出していく姿は力強く、美しいと思います。

　学部生は1年間の基礎課程の後、専攻に進み、卒業制作まで3年間という短い期間ですが、素材の理解を深め、自身の感性を造形へと結実させています。屈する事なく前進していくパワーを感じとっていただきたい。
　大学院修了生は、練り上げた構想の上、これまで培ってきた専門分野での知識と技術に磨きをかけ、自己を確立していく一歩を踏み出しています。
　この時代を生きるそれぞれの力強いメッセージを受け取っていただければと思います。

Our department’s predecessor, the Art-Crafts Course, evolved alongside Japan’s modernization. Our specialized courses now encompass metal carving, metal hammering, metal casting, urushi art (Japanese lacquer and woodworking) and ceramics (pottery, porcelain and glass formation). Students reap the benefits of these specialized courses, and have fervently embraced and experienced a diverse range of values expanding beyond the frameworks and borders of individual program domains.

I truly admire the sense of strength and beauty these students mobilized as the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered the environment and society.

Our undergraduate program students begin with the one-year foundational course, and in the remaining three years branch off into their chosen fields and prepare their graduation works. With time limited, they strive passionately to grasp the nature of the materials and focus their sensibilities to create their works. Please sense the sheer power they marshaled as they drove toward their goals.

Students finishing the graduate program have refined their knowledge and techniques. Their works show how they have forged their unique identities.

As you view their creations, please ponder the powerful messages these aspiring artists wish to deliver as they navigate a turbulent era.
