工芸Crafts

東京藝術大学に工芸科が置かれたのは古く、まさに日本の近代化と共に歩んできたと言えます。
彫金、鍛金、鋳金、漆芸（漆工・木工）、陶芸（陶・磁・ガラス造形）、染織という専門分野からなる工芸科の今年度の卒業生・修了生は、分野の専門性、さらにその枠を超えてアートや工芸を実践するハイブリッドな側面も体験してきた世代です。激変する環境や社会状況のなかから、身体を使い懸命にものを生み出していく姿は力強く、美しいものです。

学部生は1年間の基礎課程を経て分野分けから卒業制作展まで3年間という短い期間ですが、素材を理解し、自身の感性を造形へと結実させています。屈する　事なく前進していくパワーを感じとっていただきたい。
大学院修了生は、練り上げた構想の上、これまで培ってきた専門分野での知識と技術に磨きをかけています。作品制作を通して自己を確立していくことは現在・未来に向けたメッセージとなることでしょう。

The Department of Crafts was established long ago and has evolved hand in hand with Japan’s modernization. Our specialized fields encompass metal carving, metal hammering, metal casting, urushi art (Japanese lacquer and woodworking), ceramics (pottery, porcelain and glass formation) and textile arts.

Students completing their undergraduate and master’s programs have experienced the specialized natures of these fields as well as hybrid aspects of a diversified range of arts and technique beyond the boundaries of these fields. Excelling within today’s rapidly shifting environment and social backdrop, students fashion physical and mental stances to create works, presenting a stimulating fusion of power and beauty.

Our undergraduate program students begin with the one-year foundational course, and in the remaining three years branch off into their chosen fields and prepare their graduation works. With their time limited, they strive to grasp the nature of the materials, bringing their sensitivities to life in the emerging forms. Please sense the sheer power they marshaled as they drove toward their goals.

Students completing the master’s program have refined the knowledge and techniques they cultivated in their respective specialty fields, building upon concepts they formulated. By bringing creations to life, they steadily forge unique identities, projecting personal messages targeted at both today and tomorrow.
