「NO YOUTH NO JAPAN」の、そのオンライン連携状況下、インターネットを舞台に居心地のよい「場」はどのようにして育まれたのか?
そこに関わったデザインの知を明らかにする——

居心地のいい「場」としても漸進的に成長をし続ける「NO YOUTH NO JAPAN」の組織としての姿を、パターン・ランゲージの記述の方法をたよりに描く試み。
 組織の居心地を生み出すさまざまな質は、描くことで手に取れる価値として現れる。またそれは人びとをつなぐ共通言語となり、いまある組織と活動のさらなる成長・拡張を支援する。
 その過程には、わたしが自身の感覚を介して対象を眺め、よさを発見し、味わい、そこに自身の感性を照らし、描き現し、伝える——といった、デザインの重要な過程である「つくる」営みにおいて対象との間に自然に都度生まれてきた姿勢や行為が活きている。

 この作品を通して模索されるのは、デザインにおける我々の芸術的・感覚的な知性が、様々な人間行為や人びとの関係性の生成に、どのように貢献できるかという1つの可能性である。

Under online communication, how has "NO YOUTH NO JAPAN" established a comfortable space on the Internet?
We will bring out the wisdom of the designing involved ー


Attempt of describing "NO YOUTH NO JAPAN", the group gradually develops its original comfortable space, using Pattern language.
A quality that constitutes the group will become a value when we describe it as a design. The value will be a common language to connect people and support the development and expansion of the group.
In the process of this attempt, I look at the object through my own senses, find and process the good, finally bring out the design according to my feelings.

What I am looking for in this work is how our artistics and sense of intelligence in terms of designing can contribute to the creation of human action and people's relationship.

Peace, Anxiety, Joy, Struggles...
feelings can be shared even through the screen.

We want to save the thoughts of others
— which are often missed without noticing.

Under the online communication, we don't have many chances to see the faces of group members.

In this situation, we can hardly notice the nature of emotions which can lead to misunderstandings. Having the difficulty to capture one's reaction, it can be challenging to speak up.

Along with text communication, we use video chat as mentioned in【04. Tools for Parallel Conversation】so that we can see each other. The moment of meetings will be shared with the whole group 【10.Happy Share】. Also in the text communication, 【13.Anonymous Posts】provides the space with active communication.

"Let's do this!"
"I want this to happen!"
The energy reveals itself and overflaws.

"What is your dream?"
When did we stop telling the answer to it?

In order to be excited for the future, it is important to have an ambition, "How do you want the future to be like?". Handling the problem in front of us is not enough.

These days, it is difficult to have our individual dreams or sense of values since there is a tendency that expressing those aspects is something to be ashamed of.

Each member can express there likes and hates affected by the leaders who share their own passion. Free talk creates【09. Photo-Attached Activity Report】and using 【13.Anonymous Posts】can easily establish that atmosphere. If one felt any discomfort, it is important to release in 【MOYAMOYA Share】.

【03. 1人ひとりのタイミング】

Time management is the centerpiece of respecting others.
By carefully observing one's time-cycle and respecting it, the comfort will grow.

Does time restrict people?
Is it something that give us pressure?

In society or group, where we live with others, each person arrange their limited time to support everyone.

Managing the workers with time gain efficiency in groups, but sometimes it forces the minorities to join the majorities.

Respect the difference between one's private life and have a variety of choices that allow differences. Prepare 【04.Tools for Parallel Conversation】in the moment of corporation and share the attitude using 【10.Happy Share】.
【06.DIY Infrastructer】can be used to put personal working time in order.

People who are good with language,
people who are good with words.
People who speaks fast or slow.
Everyone needs to be heard.

The mood which you feel difficult to speak up that's not what we want.

Everyone has his limitations. When we express opinions, even a little word or a small sentence, there are various speed and ways that one feels comfortable to speak.

Producing creativity sometimes quicken the speed we talk and for some people it is too much to catch up on.

Use video chats in parellel with text chats, and notes that every member can edit. Keep your eyes on 【01.Face Expressions】so that you don't miss anyone and manage the speed of the conversation dealing with 【03.One's Timing】. 【18.Localized Token】like 【05.All You Can Choose Emojis】or 【07.Little Sharings】is also useful.

Even online communication creates a mood.
Colors and shapes can harmonize it.

Words aren't enough to deliver delicate and vivid nuance of emotions.

In text communication, it is highly recommended to prepare organizied information and neat word structures compared to visual communication, otherwise it can easily cause misunderstanding. On the other hand, refined sentences tend to be inorganic.

Even close cooperation emphasizes refined sentences, words are not enough to share emotions that can not be described with words.

Make an emoji originated by the phrase used daily. Utilizing【06.DIY Infrastructer】represented by ""Custom Emoji"" in Slack promotes 【13.Anonymous Posts】and function as 【04.Tools for Parallel Conversation】between group members.
Emojis can become【08. Free-Talk Mood】cand generate attachment to the community.

Build our space by ourselves.
Challenge every wishes to become true.

Accept the flexibility of individual ways to bloom the creativity.

While variety of devices or online services respond to multiple needs and support the creative cooperations, the way of using, how well they are used to it, the difficulties they face, and the particular needs are different depending on the person.

The process of arranging the infrastructure within the group by managing the rules or the system can unintentionally lose the flexibility of individual style, which will end up restricting the creative activity.

Learn and adopt the infrastructer which is highly customizable such as "Slack 1)" or "Google Workspace 2)". Actively and constantly accept the needs of group members, while experienicing the attitude of【15. Offhand Excitement】by searching the ways on the internet and moving your hands.

【07. 手軽なおそろい】

【07. Little Sharings】

Memories, realizations, learnings, and even a little things bring hapiness if we share it.

Even in the era of "diversity", sharing the "same" thing is important and gives a sense of security.

Teamwork of the group becomes stronger when we share the fulfillment gained by the experience of accomplishing a product with fellow members.

Paying too much attention on the "difference" and thinking lightly of the "identical" aspect can weaken the connection of members and the decline of attachment or identification with the group.

By designing the accurate brand-identity of the group, it can be developed as goods like stickers or 【05. All You Can Choose Emojis】. Also, 【09. Photo-Attached Activity Report】is one way of sharing the experience. It is like finding sympathy between local frinds because you have the same food taste. It gives us a sense of belonging and safety.

【08. 何を話してもいいモード】

【08. Free-Talk Mood】

A room in their minds is necessary when someone would like to talk something.

EvenNo one loves minimum necessary communication

Tons of new information approaches members at the flont line of the activity, but everyone has a quantitive limit of intellectual resources.

Giving top priority to efficiencies results in a tense, silence and communication no more than minimum necessary. Hence, shared wisdom of members shall be reduced, and the member's identification and belongingness can be lost.

There is a space to interact and communicate each other for the members. 【12. Agreeable Responses】 creates a warm mood, and promotes communication on their dream and vision such as ones written in 【02. Dreams, Ideals】. Consequently, it is welcomed when someone of the members has something want to talk or be listened by the confortable mood.

【09. Photo-Attached Activity Report】

You are not alone, as you can share everything with the others.

It is not the simplest thing that there are friendly fellows, and to feel confortable.

Remote works interfere with feeling integrative with other members.

Invisible fellows because of a remote work result in lowered relationships and loyalty.

Members share a frequent activity report with a group picture. A screen capture of the video call is useful, as this can clearly let other members know how the meeting was going on with 【01. Face Expression】when they are free (cf.【03. One's Timing】). It is widely accepted to post 【12. Agreeable Responses】 on each activity report with 【05. All You Can Choose Emojis】, and their shared experience works as the 【07. Little Sharings】.

Sharing something happy shall lead to next positive actions.

What do you think about the trial?

There shall be a growing various gap between the frontline confronted with SNS followers and the management depending on a member.

Someone who silently works with their laptop tends to feel lonely, and this may easily lower their confidence and pride.

Members frequently praise the other members with 【06. DIY Infrastructer】. Any reasons are unnecessary when praising others. Moreover, members can feel free to interactively react 【12. Agreeable Responses】 with the praising messages, using 【05. All You Can Choose Emojis】. 【13. Anonymous Posts】 shall contribute to keeping it in confident when someone would like to post something flattering or embarrassing.

Put your struggles into words, and hold it as your opinion.
You may find a way to release or a way to face it.

Haven't you built up struggles (moyamoya) without releasing to someone?

In the era we live with too much information, there are many chances to feel doubt and struggles as we think about social issues.

The struggle grows when we sympathize with negativity. And it is hard to find the reason of that feeling and you don't know how to fix it, which produces another struggle to yourself or other person.

By using【06. DIY Infrastructer】make a place where people can release their struggles. Putting your feelings into words can help figuring out the reason of it.
Especially, 【13. Anonymous Responses】can help to express since it can include private talks.
Also, show your sympathy using 【05. All You Can Choose Emojis】and 【12. Agreeable Responses】.

A casual nod has enough power to accept the existence of others.

"They will understand without explanation."
"I don't have to respond to that."
  It will cost huge afterwards.

People express their agreement, like nodding, in visual communication unconsiously and show that you are listening. However, in text communication, there are less of it.

In text communication, people feel worried if their opinion or even themselves are accepted or not because they can't tell the breathing, tone of the voice, or face expression of the other.

In order to stimulate the members to take reaction, for example add a phrase of nodding in the Customized Emojis as one of the 【05. All You Can Choose Emojis】using Slack 1) introduced in 【06. DIY Infrastructer】.
It can encourage the members to join the conversation by 【03.One's Timing】in various scenes like 【08】【09】【10】【11】.

Even without confidence or resposibility, there is a voice to be heard. Accept that fact.

The volume of the voice doesn't matter if you have the courage to speak up.

・Using text or video chats, generally you can tell who is talking.
・When facing the difference between others, raising any voice is followed by anxiesty and it needs courage to overcome that.

On top of diversity, it is almost impossible to avoid the power structure of having majority and minority, and often the voice of minority is erased by that of majority. There will be some people who feel uncomfortable since they can't raise their voice and be heard to the group.

Provide a space where people can raise their voice anonymously. In Slack 1) introduced in 【06. DIY Infrastructer】, you can make the system with "Workflow".
The system also shows respect to 【03. One's Timing】.

【14. みんなでさわれる】

【14. Open Editing】

Instantly share the things you are looking or thought about, feel, work out, and discuss it.
Extend the excitement.

"What are we discussing now?"
"I think we lost the point."
Things that happen in online meetings.

It is possible for a small group to have a discussion online, but it is hard to particulary tell what the person is looking at, and what the person is doing at the mean time.

In this situation, it is difficult for every member to recognize what the person is pointing out and keep the pace with eachother, which leads to misunderstandings.
This is stressful enough for some people to give up on discussing and leave it to others,

By utilizing 【06.DIY Infrastructer】like ""Google Workspace"" or ""miro"", set up an environement where several people can edit the product at the same time, and discuss in the situation that 【01.Face Expression】is available.
Use the tools separately as 【04.Tools for Parallel Conversation】to respect 【03. One's Timing】.

【15. うずうず即興】

【15. Offhand Excitement】

The seed of excitement is intuitive and offhanded.
People who move their hands without hesitation wins.

The excitement will not grow without a foundation that values intuition.

・In order to attract people to the idea, firstly it is important that the charm is delivered intuitively.
・Decision-making is a very important process which is necessary for the activities to be performed.

As the group expands, the speed of decision-making cycle slowdowns.
Also, the attempt of reducing stress from decision-making, subjective and sensible opinions are less captured cpmpared to objective and logical opinions, which makes hard to come up with flexible and unique idea.

Designer may actively try making the prototype believing their own intuition of, "I want to try this!". Once its made, open it to the whole group as 【14. Open Editing】and listen to the suggestions.

【16. 手触りの追求】

【16. The Pursuit of Touching】

Because we live in the digital era, be careful with delivery and recognition of various information, quality and senses of operation. Make comfort.

Sense of vision, sense of touch, and sound of words. We tend to lose the "touch" of senstive expressions.

Digital communication consists of continuation of transmission and reception based on text information delivering.

Cooperating only relying on text information makes difficult to understand since various information flow through evenly. On the other hand, if we use too much decoration, that can also be stressful. These problems can lead not only to the instant collaboration, but also catch-ups and lower the motivation of the whole group.

The designer sets up each process of delivering. Make an extra space for tools for expression, other than explanatory words, in everyday activity and maintain the situation where things first deliver instictively.

【17. 執着的もくもく】

【17. Attachment to Concentration】

Continuation of efficient moves.
Gaze at the task in front of you.
It brings comfort if you sharpen it.

Brain is not the only operation system we got.

Whatever creative project needs a backstage.

Backstage work is generally asked to do the least and it can easily become an operation which lowers the motivation of the worker. Purhaps due to this characteristic, when there is many members who are willing to contribute to the activity itself, the group will lack people in the backstage.

Concentrate on the development of your ""condition of concentration"". Meanwhile, sometimes your body moves first than your brain.
When you come to the point where you feel the confort during that condition, the product is done before you knew it.

【18. 局在的トークン】

【18. Localized Token】

The figure to appear and can be hold.
The existence of it can widen the world.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
It goes beyond a thousand creativity.

People communicate by delivering the image inside their head using words or visuals. It is easier to communicate if you share the same social background, experience, or values.

In the workspace where creativity grows, people often creat and meet new concepts and it is difficult to express and deliver using existing words.

With the expressive power of designer, visualize the new born concept. It doesn't have to be universally, it's rather better if it's sharable among the particular group. It will become 【07. Little Sharings】and raise attachment to the beloging group.

学部の卒業制作(2018)では、奈良県を拠点にした福祉型異業種協同組合「あたつく組合」を取り巻くコミュニティに参与し、そこにある居心地を生み出し、また居心地によって生まれる人々の営みの姿を描いた、「栞、つなぐ project」を発表。
同作品は、日本デザイン学会 第65回春季研究発表大会にて「住民主体の実践的なコミュニティを“育てる”デザインの開発」という研究名で論文を発表。
 
大学院在学期間の主な課外活動として、2019年7月より、「U30世代のための政治と社会の教科書メディア」をインスタグラムを中心に展開する、大学生を中心とした団体「NO YOUTH NO JAPAN」にて、理事、グラフィックデザイナー、コミュニケーションデザイナーとして活動している。
